When considering what type of top carpet cleaning method to use, you might want to consider a few bits of interesting information.  Synthetic chemical cleaners can leave residue that can be toxic or harmful to children and pets.  If you are considering this method, check into the chemicals used thoroughly.  Hot water extraction is usually non-toxic and environmentally friendly.  Do-it-yourself steam cleaning machines may not remove enough water from the carpet to prevent mold growth.  Professional grade machines are much better at extracting moisture.
